Vacation on the island of Fehmarn

We arrived with a dog, the Thomsen family welcomed us very kindly. The little house is perfect, everything needed is available. The property is completely fenced, so our dog can stay outside without supervision. We can recommend it at ?% and will definitely come back again.

Cozy and inviting

For the second time, we are visiting this beautiful house and have once again spent a wonderful vacation here. The beautiful and cozy house has contributed to this. It is located on a quiet street and yet very close to the shops.

Due to the loving and cozy furnishings, one feels a bit at home here – which is unfortunately not always the case with vacation homes.

We felt very comfortable again and would love to come back!

Beautiful vacation

Hello
Thank you very much for the dream vacation in your house and on the diverse island. We will not forget it. The location of the house was ideal, so we could visit all the beaches.
Our dog could move freely in the house and garden, a dream.
Thank you very much. We will rent a house from you again.
All the best and hopefully see you soon.

Which sights are there on Fehmarn?

Something for Everyone

Among the most beautiful beaches on Fehmarn are Burgtiefe-Südstrand and Gammendorfer Strand. Athletes and surfers, with or without a kite, will have a lot of fun here. However, remember to pay the local spa tax of currently €2.30 per day in advance to freely enjoy the beach. A very beautiful sight on Fehmarn is the Glambeck Castle Ruins. The remains of the medieval lowland castle made of brick tell a varied history. Only the four-meter-high foundation walls remain, but you can clearly see the moat and the rampart. A very special destination for music lovers is the memorial stone of the electric guitarist Jimi Hendrix. This place remains a popular meeting spot for fans of the late musician. The gifted guitarist performed on Fehmarn shortly before his death, which is why the 6.5-ton stone was erected in his honor. On rainy days, you can visit the swimming pool with a sauna and sea view. With various swimming pools, slides, and relaxation areas, fun for both adults and children is guaranteed.

What do you need to experience on Fehmarn?

Ship Ahoy!

Lighthouses serve as navigational aids for ships and sailors. On Fehmarn, you can visit five of these maritime guides. Strukkamphuk was built in 1872 and is the oldest of the towers. You can only reach it from the Fehmarnsund Bridge. Flügge is the tallest tower on Fehmarn. It is the only one you can climb. In good weather conditions, you can see all the way to the mainland. The lighthouses of Marienleuchte, Staberhuk, and Westermarkelsdorf complete the nostalgically romantic quintet on the Schleswig-Holstein coast. Another highlight on Fehmarn is the Grüner Brink Nature Reserve located on the north coast – a great destination for an excursion. The dune landscape and inland lakes immediately make you dream, and your child disappears into the dune grass. From here, you can already see the ferry port of Puttgarden. A similar destination is the ten-hectare Waterfowl Reserve Wallnau. From an observation tower, you have a good view over the bird sanctuary. The diversity of species is impressive. It's great that there are such areas like this in the Baltic Sea.

What can you experience on Fehmarn with children?

Power to the Kids!

Curiosity and thirst for knowledge take precedence on Fehmarn! In the Galileo Knowledge World, everything revolves around natural history and technology. Several museums illuminate science in various ways. An offer that will still excite your child in the evening back at the vacation apartment. There are puzzles to solve and even experiments can be conducted. A family-friendly vacation is thus guaranteed. Another excursion destination on Fehmarn is the local Sea Center, one of the largest European marine water facilities. Do not miss visiting the coral garden and the reef tunnel. Rays, jellyfish, and clownfish are within reach. The highlight is the Oceanaquarium with several shark species. So don't miss this special experience! The Butterfly Park Fehmarn displays more than 50 butterfly species over 1000 square meters. Zebra finches and dwarf quails greet you curiously. Your dog is allowed on a leash in the tropical park, and you can visit water turtles and koi carp.

Where can I eat out on Fehmarn?

Sea Air Makes You Hungry!

The spicy air whets your appetite. Delicious fish or a fish sandwich as a snack makes your vacation on Fehmarn a culinary feast. Dive into Baltic cuisine and learn about the cooking customs. It's much more fun to try out and serve up some specialties in the kitchen of your vacation apartment on Fehmarn. Gourmets among you can end the day comfortably in one of the numerous beach restaurants. Affordable eateries right by the sea can be found all over the island, especially in the southern area around Burg or Wulfen.

What is a must-see on Fehmarn?

Shall We Cross the Clothes Hanger?

Among the most extraordinary structures on Fehmarn is the Fehmarnsund Bridge. The residents of Fehmarn affectionately call their bridge "Clothes Hanger." The bridge has become the island's landmark and leads to the mainland of Schleswig-Holstein. Especially in the evening, the skyline is a real eye-catcher. If you are interested in German painting of the 20th century, the E.L. Kirchner Documentation is appealing. In Burg on Fehmarn, you can see reproductions, historical photographs, and gain insight into the life's work of the Expressionist. The Submarine Museum "U 11" in Burgstaaken features its decommissioned namesake submarine, which is also the landmark of Burgstaaken. The museum is open from March to October, with adults paying €9 and children up to 14 years paying €6 for admission.

How do I come to Fehmarn?

Across the Bridge to the Island

To reach Fehmarn, it is best to travel by car or bus. From the south, take the A1 to Heiligenhafen and then use the 963-meter-long Fehmarnsund Bridge to directly access the Baltic Sea island. If you are arriving by public transport, we recommend renting a bicycle for further transportation on the island. This keeps you mobile and allows you to explore the various villages and the coast!
